Moments with The Song

This is from a woman I know:

A while ago, I was praying in a short break between tasks in our church benevolence center. I had just finished reading Song of Solomon and was thinking about it, how different it is from other books of the Bible. Sharing that thought with the Father, I said, “Lord, someday I’ll get to ask You why that’s a book of the Bible,” smiling a little as I spoke.

And He said, “Because that’s how I feel about you. You’re each the apple of my eye, in the most extravagant expressions of passionate and profound love. You’re each my greatest favorite forever.”

What is so stunning about that moment? That the magnificent and omnipotent God of the universe actually talks to us? That He really IS the “God Who is There” with us always? That He loves me even though He knows me completely? Perhaps we need to find Him, as Jeremiah said, by seeking Him whole-heartedly, and letting Him explain it all.

We have heard the passages that speak of His unimaginable love, and it is more real than anything we can experience in any way, unlike anything that is of this world.

Jesus came into this world to show us the Father. He did preach repentance because we need it, but His message was saturated in the power, the majesty, and the sweetness of God’s love. May we come to the Cross as we are, lost children, and be found by the God Who has waited for us, holding open His arms to enfold us in love forever.
